Electronics options and what they mean

What are RGB and Pixel electronics?

The main difference is how the blade lights up. RGB electronics have LEDs in the hilt (the saber body) that shine into the blade, while Pixel electronics require the use of a blade that features a strip of LEDs housed inside the blade (not the saber body). This allows for advanced programmable effects similar to how a light show works. However, Pixel blades are not strong enough for dueling—sparring can bend the blade and damage the internal LED strip. Don't worry, if you want both types of blades to use with one saber, we have Pixel + RGB options for that (see more info below).

What is Direct File Editing?

Items with this, in short, have an SD card. The SD card allows for room to add more soundfonts that users create or purchase from other soundfont creators.

What are Blade Animations?

This is a feature gained by a Pixel blade. Because of the numerous LEDs running the length of the Pixel blade combined with settings on a saber, the saber can do special lighting effects like a slow crawl turn on, a wild sporadic flicker up and down the blade, or even an endless rainbow rotation of color. Base lit items (RGB) have LEDs inside the body of the saber and cannot perform this type of light show.

What is the difference between an Elite, Apprentice, and "Legacy" Saber?

Elite and Apprentice represent tier. Elite items tend to be larger with more detail and have a larger thread pitch; Apprentice items are a little smaller with a smaller thread pitch.

Legacy items are those that feature two 12mm holes for a button and a recharge port. Due to the style of these items, they do not work with drop-in cores and require hardwired electronics. This means the outcomes of such builds are fixed and glued at the joint (you cannot take them apart and you cannot remove the electronics or the battery).

If you are seeking information about how to build sabers or what you can use with drop-in cores, please see our other articles on Modular and building with ASP parts.

Our Saber Electronics

Stunt

Classic to Legacy sabers. Single-color function without any special effects and no sound (turns on and off like a flashlight). These builds are hardwired (not a drop-in core) and fixed assembly builds. Features AC (round) recharge port charging.

Stunt RGB

This is a drop-in core option that has no sound and does not work with an app. It features color-changing and flicker effects. Good for dueling. (No, sound functionality cannot be added to these cores at a later time).

Xeno RGB Basic

A drop-in core option with 16 soundfonts, color-changing, works with the Xeno Configurator app and has different flicker options. Good for dueling.

Xeno RGB Legacy

This is a Xeno RGB sound board that is hardwired in legacy products. They are not removable, but have all other features of Xeno RGB Basic drop-in cores.

Xeno RGB Premium

This is essentially the "Basic", but with more sounds because it includes an SD card. Good for dueling.

Xeno Pixel

Uses a pixel blade for advanced lighting effects (like animated ignition). Includes color-changing, blade animations, 25+ built-in soundfonts, an SD card, and works with the Xeno Configurator app. Pixel blade used with this core is not suitable for dueling.

Golden Harvest Pixel

As a drop in core, it is similar to the Xeno Pixel setup, but uses the more feature-rich Golden Harvest soundboard. Has a different, more customizable menu with 47+ soundfonts. Includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The pixel blade used with a pixel core is not suitable for dueling.

Golden Harvest Pixel + RGB

Golden Harvest Drop-in Pixel cores can be converted to RGB by using an RGB adapter. RGB adpaters are little LED modules that are easily connected to the end of a pixel core (both Xeno and Golden Harvest) and allow users to use a base-lit blade instead of a Pixel blade.

Golden Harvest RGB Legacy (v4)

Uses a base-lit LED and standard dueling blade. Same features as the Golden Harvest Pixel; however, this version does not include the pixel blade and animations exclusive to Pixel electronics. Good for dueling. In legacy items, the electronics are hardwired and cannot be removed. Data connectivity for this sound board is possible through the USB-C recharge port and wirelessly; the SD card cannot be physically removed.

Golden Harvest Pixel Legacy (v4)

Same features as the standard Golden Harvest Pixel option with 47+ soundfonts. Includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Again, the pixel blade used with a pixel core is not suitable for dueling. As a legacy item, the electronics are hardwired and cannot be removed. Data connectivity for this sound board is possible through the USB-C recharge port and wirelessly; the SD card cannot be physically removed.

First Harvest RGB (Legacy item)

While this is no longer offered, it is included here for those who have sabers with these electronics for comparison and information purposes. This sound board is a simpler version of Golden Harvest RGB without wireless connectivity. Has 10 soundfonts, color change, adjustable volume, and power-saving features (AC port and kill key). Items with this sound board are fixed assembly, and the electronics are hardwired. Great for dueling.

"PIXEL PLUS RGB ELECTRONICS"

This package will only be offered where items have electronics options that use drop-in cores (electronics are removable). Purchases with this package include a pixel blade, a dueling blade, and an RGB adapter so you can switch between blade types depending on needs. A great option for those who want the flexibility of both blade types in one saber.
