How to change blade length on a Pixel saber / Pixel Blade issues

Does your pixel blade look like it has dead pixels at the tip, or are you missing a blade animation?

Pixel blades have a strip of LEDs housed inside the blade. The quantity of LEDs in a given blade will depend on the blade length. By default, all pixel electronics are set up for 37-inch pixel blades. If you're using a 40-inch pixel blade, the setting for the pixel count will need to be increased to account for the added length and different number of LEDs. This guidance also applies to blades shorter than 37 inches; you will need to decrease the LED count down for a 32 or 26-inch blade.

Why does this matter?

If the pixel count is set higher than what is needed (ie, electronics are set for 37" blade, but you are using a 26" blade), special animations like tip-drag will not be visible since the board is attributing the wrong number of LEDs. If the pixel count is set too low, the tip will not light up.

Recommended blade length (pixel count) values by blade length:

  1. 26 inch blade: 90 - 95
  2. 32 inch blade: 116
  3. 37 inch blade: 135
  4. 40 inch blade: 144
