What is the Override file? (Golden Harvest)

Everyone loves when their new saber arrives, and things are working perfectly. Then, one day, a friend, family member, or you mistakenly makes a change you cannot figure out how to undo or don't even realize was made. Sometimes these changes can even cause the saber to seem broken. What now?

In short, Golden Harvest, regardless of build type (pixel or base lit RGB), functions by instructions stored in a text file called the "General File" on the SD featured with the soundboard. Also on the saber SD card will be other files that contain the soundfonts and lighting effects. When making changes to the saber through the buttons, the saber editor, or the app (v4 only), the saber stores these changes in a new, additional text file it creates and names "override-general.txt". This file is stored along with all the original files on the SD card.

"How do I get my saber back to how it was?"

To revert a saber with Golden Harvest Electronics back to the original settings as received, do the following:

  1. Plug the saber into a Windows computer
  2. Ignore any pop-ups (Windows firewall default will ask to reformat, do not do this)
  3. Open File Explorer
  4. Locate the saber, named something like "GHV4" (number indicates the generation of the board)
  5. Open the folder
  6. Locate the General "Override" file and delete this file only
    • Optional: while you have the saber plugged in, make a copy of the entire saber folder for backup
  7. Right-click on the saber folder "GHV4" in the file explorer window and eject the device
  8. Unplug the saber
  9. Wait for the saber to reboot

This should remove any edits made to the saber by mistake and get you back to "Factory Settings".

Reformatting the SD card is only helpful in special situations and should not be the first step to fixing problems. If you need more help or have questions, please call or email us. We are happy to help.
